CPU processor chip

7th Generation Intel Core i5-7600K Processor Kaby lake

4 cores, 4 threads, 3.8 GHz base frequency, max turbo 4.2 GHz, overclocked to 4.2 GHz base! 4.5 GHz overclocking potential! Intel unlocked the multiplier on this CPU which allows overclocking and charges a premium for this feature! We recommend overclocking. Why pay for a Core i7 or even a Core i7 Extreme CPU when you can overclock a Core i5! We use the savings on a better video card and the rest of the build. Overclocking does nix Intel's warranty which is why it should be done with CPU overclocking know-how and we do it for you. If you don't want it overclocked no problem just let us know.
6 MB Cache, 14 nm Kaby lake architecture.
Multi-task at blazing speeds with this 7th Generation Intel Kaby lake CPU!

You don't need to but you can anytime upgrade your CPU to an Intel Core i7 CPU! See how we choose a CPU.

Recent updates to Dream Big PC build

April 20, 2017. Upgraded PSU to 850 watts capacity, plenty of expansion capability!

January 12, 2017. Upgraded CPU to Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake architecture! Upgraded motherboard chipset to Intel Z270 Chipset! Upgraded SSD to PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe M.2 SSD! Upgraded PSU to 80PLUS Gold efficiency, changed wattage to 750 W which is plenty reserve power!

October 17, 2016. Updated video card, memory, motherboard! New video card GTX 1060 6 GB instead of GTX 1070 drops price of PC big time, still very powerful!

August 8, 2016. Upgraded video card to NVIDIA GTX 1070 GPU!

July 26, 2016. Increased SSD storage size, eliminated slower traditional hard drive.

April 29, 2016. Added a hard drive in addition to SSD.

December 27, 2015. Upgraded PSU to 850 watts! Hey if you ever want to upgrade your video card configuration to two Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti video cards in dual SLI for max settings in 4K gaming, now you have the overhead juice to power them!

November 17, 2015. Upgraded video card to NVIDIA GTX 970 chipset. This should give you maximum detail settings at 2560x1440 (1440p) gaming with the right monitor and potential to upgrade to SLI in the future and maybe even 4K gaming at some settings. Upgraded memory to DDR4-2400 sticks. Changed motherboard slightly better deal on this one, pretty much same specs. Enjoy!

September 12, 2015. Increased capacity of SSD to 250 GB and changed to a SATA SSD from a PCI Express SSD which are still hard to come by and expensive. However used a 2.5 inch form factor SATA SSD thereby keeping the motherboard M.2 slot open for future expansion to a M.2 PCI Express NVMe SSD.

August 8, 2015. Updated storage to a PCI Express Gen 3.0 x 4 lanes interface in a M.2 form factor. That's so fast you'll be flying!

August 6, 2015. Updated CPU to 6th generation Intel Skylake architecture! Updated motherboard to Intel Z170 Express chipset! Updated memory to DDR4!

July 28, 2015. Changed the case to a newer model.

June 30, 2015. Upgraded video card to 4GB video memory with the new AMD Radeon R9 380 GPU.

June 1, 2015. Dropped SSD, changed video card to GTX 960, and went to standard memory to make PC more affordable. As a reminder one can upgrade any part for a different price if needed.

April 19, 2015. Big overhaul in design, big drop in price! Changed focus to make this an 'affordable' extreme gaming PC from previously a flagship gaming PC that looked good on paper but was out of reach for most. This new build seeks extreme gaming performance at an 'affordable' price. Also more challenging to design but think we've got something great here!

April 17, 2015. Changed the form factor of the Solid State Drive SSD to SATA 2.5 inch internal drive from SATA M.2 form factor. While there are plenty of case drive bays available, there is only one M.2 slot on the motherboard. This move keeps the M.2 slot on the motherboard free for a potential future addition of a PCIe M.2 SSD which is substantially faster than a SATA M.2 SSD. Since these PCIe M.2 SSDs are crazy expensive now, it makes sense to wait for those prices to come down, keeping the M.2 slot open for it.

March 26, 2015. Changed Solid State Drive SSD to Crucial 250 GB MX200 with faster read write speeds and more storage capacity.
